چکیده

In this paper, we consider a new channel sounding scheme for opportunistic scheduling with the use of reduced channel information in the uplink of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wireless systems. To reduce signaling overhead for the sounding, we propose a two step channel sounding process considering the correlation characteristic in the time and frequency domain; called pre-sounding and mainsounding. Signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) of each subchannel is first estimated through the pre-sounding process. Then, a main-sounding signal is sent over subchannels having high SNR but not highly correlated to each other. Since it is possible to extract the whole channel information from partial one by exploiting the channel correlation, the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the sounding signaling overhead without noticeable performance degradation compared to the full sounding scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides significant performance improvement over conventional schemes especially when the channel is highly correlated in the time and frequency domain.

Uplink Channel Sounding in TDD-OFDM Cellular Systems

In this paper, we consider uplink channel sounding in time division duplex (TDD) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular systems. The channel information provided by uplink sounding may be necessary to exploit closed loop transmission techniques in TDD-OFDM systems. However, conventional sounding schemes may suffer from large sounding overhead, significantly restricting...

Improved Channel Estimation for DVB-T2 Systems by Utilizing Side Information on OFDM Sparse Channel Estimation

The second generation of digital video broadcasting (DVB-T2) standard utilizes orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system to reduce and to compensate the channel effects by utilizing its estimation. Since wireless channels are inherently sparse, it is possible to utilize sparse representation (SR) methods to estimate the channel. In addition to sparsity feature of the channel, the...

Time-Varying Frequency Fading Channel Tracking In OFDM-PLNC System, Using Kalman Filter

Physical-layer network coding (PLNC) has the ability to drastically improve the throughput of multi-source wireless communication systems. In this paper, we focus on the problem of channel tracking in a Decode-and-Forward (DF) OFDM PLNC system. We proposed a Kalman Filter-based algorithm for tracking the frequency/time fading channel in this system. Tracking of the channel is performed in the t...
